The decision of hiring an accountant for your small business can be a nerve-racking one since you will be entrusting an outside expert with confidential financial information. We have provided three tips we think are most important when selecting the right provider for you.

Take Your Time

It's wise to talk to at least 3 individuals or accounting firms before making your choice. Get estimates from different accounts and understand their fee structures to help make the right choice. Tap into your social networks to ask questions as well, referrals can be a great way to find the right accountant.

Ask Questions

Ask the accountant about their turnaround time for filings, reports, follow ups, etc to get a feel for their responsiveness. Find out what software they use, the industries they have worked with and anything to make sure the align with your goals.

Use and Trust Your Intuition

When you meet an accountant for the first time, consider your intuition. Alongside logical evaluations such as location, pricing, experience and references, ask yourself if you could trust this person with the intimate details of your business. If you think you could work with them for the foreseeable future then that’s great.
